Blood Oranges

I squeeze the luscious fruit
In my fist and watch
With satisfaction
As it explodes like some tiny, juicy planet.

Blood-colored liquid
Seeps between my flesh-filled fingers
Filling the chalice below
With delicious, gory sweetness.

And I am just a bit queasy
From the heady feeling of my own power,
From the sense of sacrament. And from my own desire
To lick the juice from my elbow.

So lovely

So lovely, so fierce
Dulcet tones of a lioness purring
And I wonder…
Can I make you growl?

If I bit the back of your neck…
Would you show me your belly?
If I were your Amazon,
Would you be my totem, my tigress?

I crouch silently at the water’s edge.
Come to me.

Ahurani

You flow into me.
Naturally.
Like water.
Seeking level ground, the center way,
Soft and welcome as the first spring rain
Quenching parched earth.
You flow over and through me
And together we are new, lush, full.

You crash into me.
Powerfully.
Like the ocean’s tide.
Wave upon wave upon the rocky shoal of my soul,
A constant, cosmic rhythm
Softening rough edges, bringing new life,
Marking me forever.
You nourish and sooth me
And together we are eternal.
